1903 Upper Murray
Tea Towel
A commemorative tea towel for the Man from Snowy River Museum inspired by the 1903 Commonwealth Electoral Roll of the Upper Murray.
The design features hundreds of surnames from families living across the Upper Murray district shortly after Federation, creating a powerful visual record of the people who helped shape our region. The project combined historical research, typography, and heritage interpretation to transform archival information into a meaningful keepsake.
Each surname was carefully researched using electoral records and local historical knowledge, with every effort made to ensure spelling accuracy and respectful representation of local families. The final product became both a practical souvenir and a conversation piece, encouraging people to reflect on their connection to the district and the generations who came before them.
The project demonstrated how local history can be preserved in creative and accessible ways, helping museums engage visitors while creating fundraising opportunities through heritage merchandise.
